Health in the Justice System Provider Networking and Engagment Day

On the 27 March 2014 LVSC held an event in partnership with the NHS London ‘Health in the Justice System Team’.

On the 27 March 2014 LVSC held an event in partnership with the NHS London 'Health in the Justice System Team'.

The purpose of the event was to develop the provider market by:

  • encourage the development of  bidding partnerships
  • outline current opportunities arising to bid for delivery of healthcare service
  • provide an opportunity to learn about the policy context in which services are delivered
  • provide an overview of the emerging commissioning landscape nationally, along with changes occurring within the justice system that may impact on how healthcare services are delivered

There were two elements to the  day: the morning session consisted of a range of presentations by key NHS partners  from organisations responsible for commissioning or supporting  justice related health services including NHS England (London), Ministry of Justice (National Offender Management Service, Probation Service), Public Health England, Home Office, the Metropolitan Police Service, City of London Police Service, British Transport Police, South of England Procurement Services, Service user representatives and Voluntary and Community and Social Enterprises (VCSE) partners.

Presentations including information on:

NHS Constitution/Statutory Duty including the NHS commissioning landscape, meaningful engagement

Measuring Performance, Accountability and Outcomes

Strategic planning  and links with The Mayor of London's Police and Crime Plan

Commissioning prisons, Sexual Assault Referral Centres, Immigration Removal Centres, Immediate Accommodation, Police Custody Healthcare, Liaison and Diversion)

Ministry of Justice ‐  the changing offender management landscape relationship  the with Transforming Rehabilitation Agenda

Home Office  responsibilities  e.g Immigration Enforcement

During the afternoon session there was an opportunity for providers to network and potentially build future bidding partnerships, as the NHS stated that it was keen to increase the range and types of organisations that it commissioned to provide services.

The event was very successful with over 160 participants from across the public, independent and VCSE sectors attending. A full report of the event will be on the LVSC website shortly.
