Big Squeeze 2011

The Big Squeeze survey is a snapshot of the current impact the economic and policy climate is having on the voluntary and community sector in London and the people that use their services. It suggests that Londoners are being negatively affected by recent local authority cuts, welfare reforms and unemployment.

Findings

Our research was compiled into an extensive report, launched on 20th July 2011. It showed that Londoners and the voluntary and community organisations who support them are being hit harder than ever due to the continued impact of the poor economic climate and of the current public sector spending cuts.

In previous years LVSC's Big Squeeze reports have accurately predicted trends which later proved true.

Research from 2011 revealed a worrying trend of disproportionate cuts to cost effective preventative services particularly in children and young people's, advice and health services.

"Despite all the emphasis on early identification, intervention and support, it is exactly those preventative services that are being cut first."

Through the Big Squeeze campaign, LVSC and its partners hope to influence strategic policy and decision-makers to understand the impact of recent cuts and the recession and how this affects Londoners reliant on voluntary services.
